Why is Detox Essential in Recovery?
The Benefits of Detox
Detox is crucial in the beginning of a successful recovery. The idea of flushing the body of toxins and other substances may seem uncomfortable. At Magnolia Detox, we use cutting edge therapies, technology, and medications to deal with, and diminish withdrawal symptoms and cravings. The benefits of detox are virtually endless. A successful recovery is invaluable and in some situations, could be the difference between life and death. A successful detox is key to any person’s recovery.
The Detox Process
Comprehensive Evaluation
Our medical staff screens each client for any apparent factors that should be immediately addressed. In some circumstances this can include physical health, while others it may be mental health – or even both. Our process also includes an extensive review of each client’s psychiatric and medical history.
Therapeutic Stabilization
Following the initial comprehensive evaluation, our clinical professionals ensure the client is calm and stable. We use a variety of therapeutic processes during this stage, each of which is determined to meet the specific needs of the client. In some circumstances, we use medication therapy to minimize uncomfortable or dangerous withdrawal symptoms as a result of stopping substance use.
Preparation for Treatment
The final step of detox is preparing the client for continued care. After detox, it is essential to follow the recommended continuum of care to aid in the client’s long-term success with recovery. Detox is the first stage of addiction treatment. Inpatient, or residential treatment, is typically the next stage for most individuals.
What to Expect During Inpatient Detox
Inpatient vs Outpatient Detox
An inpatient program works well for individuals who need consistent comprehensive care. At our inpatient facility, we monitor our clients 24/7 and always ensure they are both safe and comfortable. Outpatient detox clients receive the same care, just while at the facility. Outpatient treatment programs work well for people who prefer, and are capable of still living it home while coming into the facility for treatment on a scheduled basis.
Both inpatient and outpatient detox programs have their perks. Typically, one or the other works better for each person’s current situation. In a situation where someone has extreme withdrawal symptoms and is dealing with a strong addiction, inpatient detox is most likely the better program for them. While someone dealing with less intense withdrawal symptoms and can handle abstaining from substances may prefer an outpatient detox program.
Regardless, both inpatient and outpatient are extremely effective. At our drug and alcohol detox program in Houston, we can help you determine which program will work better for you.
At Home Drug Detox
Attempting to detox from drugs or alcohol at home is never recommended. Quitting “cold turkey” can lead to extremely dangerous consequences. If you or a loved one are dealing with substance use issues and are considering quitting cold turkey, please contact us. We can help minimize any possible complications during detox.
Withdrawal symptoms often lead to health complications. In some cases, they even lead to mental and emotional health complications. Each of which are treated within our detox programs in Houston.
New Healthcare Laws
In the past few years, updated healthcare laws improved several treatment options. Addiction treatment is now an “essential health benefit” that must be covered by most health plans. It is not easier than ever to enroll in a detox program – and even long-term treatment with the help of insurance. Our team is happy to help you understand your treatment provider’s policy. We work with several insurance providers and are awaiting your call.

Life After Detox
Whether the client enrolls in an inpatient program, or an outpatient program after detox, they can expect to participate in therapies and treatments that will be highly beneficial to their recovery. At Magnolia, especially after completing our drug and alcohol detox program in Houston, we recommend our residential program. Our detox programs are designed to help the client transition to each level of care in the smoothest way possible.
Medical detox and abstinence-based detox are two routes of achieving initial sobriety. Depending on the client’s current situation and history of substance use, medical or abstinence-based detox will be recommended. Medical detox utilizes evidence-based medications to manage dangerous withdrawal symptoms during initial counseling and behavioral therapies. Abstinence-based detox simply involved counseling and behavioral therapies without the use of any medication.
In most scenarios, detox lasts between three days to one week. Though, the duration of detox depends on the needs of the individual. It is possible that detox lasts longer than one week. It is a case by case basis and we do everything in our power to help our clients. Since psychological withdrawal symptoms typically last longer than physical symptoms, we highly recommend starting an addiction treatment program following detox.
Most insurance companies cover about 50% of the costs of addiction treatment. Some may even cover more (or even all) of the cost. Give us a call for a free cost consultation.
Many insurance companies cover drug and alcohol detox. We offer free insurance verification. Through our insurance verification, you can easily determine how much your insurance will cover.
